Historic

Please God, keep him safe for the next 77 days.  He needs to take office.  I don't care how long he lasts, but he's got to take office.  Once in office, his magical powers will expel all the evil that have resided there for the past 8 years.  The roses that bloom in his wake will freshen the putrid stank left by the Bush and Dick.  The rainbows that shoot from his eyes will brighten the darkness and make the White House "white" once again.  Magical melodies that flows forth from his arse will sooth and calm the world and restore confidence in America.

In all seriousness, I truly believe that we have all been witnesses to an important moment in history.  I can't put my finger on it, but it's a feeling.  It's the same feeling that I had when I saw him speak at the DNC in 2004.  I think it really is just that same sentiment we've been hearing over and over again, but now I'm feeling it.  Change?  Yes we can.

Mrs. Wang blogging here. Let me ask you a question. Who has the best, most wonderful, thoughtful, giving, loving husband in the whole wide world? Can you guess?

Yesterday was our 2 year anniversary. Due to scheduling conflicts and unemployment on my part, we were unable to travel to the far and exotic location of my dreams. My dearest hubs knew how bummed I was that we were unable to go on vacay and so he gave me the best anniversary week ever!

Yes, you read correctly. Anniversary WEEK. He celebrated (I didn't do anything) every single day of this week by being extra romantic and showering me with attention. And what girl doesn't love that?

Day 1, he was late coming home. We had dinner reservations and we were trying to get to a show in Hollywood that night. As the time got later and later, I got more and more frustrated. But then he arrived, holding a BEAUTIFUL bouquet of flowers. These babies made the place smell delicious for the duration of their short lives.

Day 2, the hubs snuck out early (claiming he had a meeting) to grab breakfast at my favorite bakery. He rushed home to give me breakfast in bed. Yes, they were all for me. And yes, I finished the morning bun, brioche, and the chocolate croissant. Every last crumb. It's not like breakfast in bed is an everyday thing.  breakfast copy

Day 3, my well rounded hubs surprised me with a book I've been wanting to read but not wanting to buy it because it's only in hardcover and I didn't want to spend the money.

Day 4, what's an anniversay week without some bling? An apple for the (ex)teacher.... isn't it so cute?

Day 5. This was the movie that I was looking forward to for so long. And after having made plans to see it with a friend of mine, we ended up never getting around to watching it. So guess who remembered that I wanted to watch it and was waiting for it to come out on dvd?

dvd only stipulation is that I watch it myself. the hubs cannot stand SJP.

Day 6, I got the sweetest, cutest card ever!

card If you were to walk in on us on an evening at home, this is what you would find us doing. Except, we don't have a cat under the table. And our eyes aren't closed. And we don't usually eat popcorn. But other than that...

And finally, our anniversary day. We exchanged gifts, went to a beautiful, amazing dinner at Hatfields whose tasting menu was UNBELIEVEABLE (photos to follow).  Came home, I ended up organizing my closet as my dear husband, who had too many different types of alcohol at dinner, had a splitting headache and was passed out.

I am such a lucky girl!! Sorry to gross out some of you.

Sapphire

Sapphire's been sick for a long time, battling cancer that has spread to her bones.  Even while she was in pain, it never stopped her from enjoying each morsel of food offered to her, directly or indirectly.  She'll follow the kids around the house, just waiting for them to "accidentally" drop some food.  She's, by far, the happiest dog I've ever met.  Our entire family's been very fortunate to have had her in our lives for the past 12 years.  She will be sorely missed.

Goodnight Sapphire.  Say hi to Doe Doe for me.

curse of the vegetable soup

N here again.

So last Sunday, J and I were at the grocery store and he decided that he wanted to make vegetable soup. I looove vegetable soup so I was delighted at the prospect of having hot, yummy soup for lunch the next day.

We get home, and J goes into the kitchen. He's washing, chopping, sorting veggies. He's doing his thing and I'm getting my delicious chicken marinade together when I hear a "AHHH!" from my poor hubs.

I turn around and I see him bleeding profusely from his finger. Ironic. He's always telling me that I need to be careful while chopping and he goes an slices his finger so deep that it doesn't stop bleeding for hours.

I finish making the soup and we have it for dinner. Later that night, my stomach feels slightly irritated. I pop some Pepcid and go to bed.

Next day, I take the soup to school for lunch. I have it for lunch. Then I start feeling a sharp pain in my stomach. It doesn't last long and it comes and goes for a couple of hours. I pop some more Pepcid and Maalox when I get home.

The next day (Tuesday) my stomach hurts as soon as I get up in the morning. I pop some more Pepcid, Maalox, and some prescription ulcer meds I had leftover from my last ulcer episode.

During the day the pain intensifies. I go and run errands after work, then go home and lie down after popping more Pepcid, Maalox, and Prevacid.

Few hours later, I'm in so much pain....I won't go into the thoughts running through my head. It's 5:30 by this time, and the Dr's office is closed. I figure I can hang on until 9 the next morning. I call a sub for the next day and pray/cry/crawl/pop more meds.

After 7 more hours of excruciating pain, I couldn't take it anymore. J drives me to the ER (going 120 in his car). We get there and WAIT for 2 1/2 HOURS before i get treatment. and there was only 1 other person in the waiting room. I see drs and nurses chilling, talking, joking around, going outside for cig breaks. WTF?!?!

I finally get meds, a nice GI cocktail of various medicines. These meds made me feel like a thousand ants were crawling up and down my body. I jump up out of my bed, wearing only my gown, iv needle still in my arm, and start hopping, pacing, jumping around the room/halls. j manages to convince me to lie down and sleep. when i wake up, it's close to 5am, j is still sitting in the crappy plastic er chair. the nurse tells me that they're still finishing my blood tests.

When I'm finally discharged, it's 6am.

So to make a long story short, J and I were cursed with that soup. NEVER am I making that soup again, EVER.
